Kranji Primary School was established as a Government co-educational school in 1997 to meet the needs of the growing population of young families in Choa Chu Kang New Town. The school was officially declared open on 3 July 1999 by Mr Yeo Cheow Tong, then Minister for Communications and Information Technology and Member of Parliament for Hong Kah GRC.
The school started with 19 classes comprising 646 students and 80 teaching and non-teaching staff. Within two years, the enrolment grew rapidly to 48 classes. In response to the growing demand and changes within the educational landscape, the school underwent PRIME in 2002 to expand its facilities. The redeveloped campus had a new block of classrooms and computer laboratories.
Under the Primary Education Review and Implementation (PERI) recommendations, the school started to operate single session in 2013. In the same year, planning for PERI Upgrading to enhance the school infrastructure to further support holistic education also began.
In 2018, Kranji Primary celebrates its 21st anniversary with new facilities such as the Indoor Sports Hall, Programme for Active Learning (PAL) Room, Teaching Laboratory and Student Care Centre, marking the completion of the PERI Upgrading project. With the addition of an MOE Kindergarten and Kindergarten Care located within its premises and slated to start operations in 2019, the school is poised to begin a new chapter as it continues to develop Kranjians to be Joyful Learners, Gracious Citizens and Champions in Life.
Since its establishment, Kranji Primary School has been led by 4 principals - Mr Tan Say Kiat (1997 to 2002), Mr Sam Wong (2002 to 2009), Mrs Chin Shin Wea (2009 to 2013) and Mrs Loh Meng Har, our current principal who took over the school leadership in 2014.
