The Tamil Department aims to imbue in pupils the love and appreciation for the Tamil Language and Culture through joyful and engaging language learning experiences.
To empower Tamil pupils to be confident and competent users of the Tamil Language
Our Tamil Department had activities planned out for our students in conjunction with the Harvest Festival, Pongal.
The P2 & P4 Tamil pupils observed Pongal in class. Pongal, is the traditional Harvest Festival celebrated mainly by Hindus. Cooking of the Pongal rice was demonstrated and this experiential learning also tied up with their TL curriculum. Pupils
were also taught on the significance of Pongal and they viewed a display of items used for Pongal celebration in class. The Pupils’ writeup on Pongal was also featured in the national newspaper, Tamil Murasu.
We also invited Mr Ravi, a parent volunteer, who shared on his expertise on the traditional instrument “Tavil” with our P5 & P6 students. Pupils had an engaging “Question & Answer” session followed by hands-on practices.
IT & E-LEARNING
All P1-P6 Tamil pupils have started to use Pazhahutamil, an online learning portal. Pupils are be able to learn and revise their Tamil syllabus content. Lab lessons are conducted fortnightly and homework is assigned via the portal during term breaks. Pupils surf TL magazine webpages to read articles in Tamil.
