Kranji Primary School was built in 1996 at 11, Choa Chu Kang St 54 with a land area of about 1.89 ha.
The School building comprised of 4 main blocks (A, B, C & D) which had 36 classrooms, 17 special rooms and other standardized rooms such as General Office, Principal’s Office, Staff Common room.
The Principal-Designate for the school, Mr. Tan Say Kiat, was appointed on 2nd October 1996. The final stage of building construction was completed in late December 1996. The Handing-over Ceremony took place on 31st December 1996. More than one hundred people turned up, amongst whom were representatives from MOE, PWD, the main contractor, sub-contractors and the staff of Kranji Primary School.
At the ceremony, Mr. Wong Hooei Wai, Asst Chief Architect from PWD handed over the management of the school, represented by a bunch of keys, to Mr. Tan Say Kiat. Hence, a new chapter of history has begun. The school took in its first batch of pupils from Primary 1 to Primary 5 on 3 January 1997 and started functioning at the new premises on the same day. The school underwent PRIME in 2002 and on completion in December 2003, a new block of classrooms was added to the existing infrastructure.
The school is well equipped with modern facilities and special rooms. The pupil enrolment has increased rapidly from 646 in 1997 to 2 100 in 2004, and spread over 57 classes in two sessions. The school offers all three Mother Tongue languages, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. The pupil population comprises 49.6% Chinese, 44.3% Malay, 5.4% Indian and 0.7% other ethnic.
